Sagittarius Rising

March, 2009. Pencil.
Sagittarius Rising is a  pencil drawing from March, 2009. The drawing is inspired by my own astrological "ascendant" or "rising" sign as determined by the tropical zodiac. Unfortunately, part of the drawing is cut off.

The drawing is set at sunrise with the sun in the east. A centaur  bucks and readies his bow and arrow. He is high up in the mountains on a cliff which overlooks the valley below.

The style of the rocky mountain has pretty significantly improved since the drawing of the griffin, but still leaves much to be desired. The moss is still need more texture and value. The man would have been better if he were more muscular. The horse-part is also anatomically incorrect, however I had no references at the time of drawing. He is also missing the quiver  for holding additional arrows. Howevr, the clouds are much improved and appear more wispy
