Adobe Photoshop Masking

While taking a class called "ABOS" in highschool, I learned many skills and techniques for using Photoshop. One of the easiest and most useful skills used is masking. It is one of the fundamental skills of photo-editing.

Here I have "color on gray scale" images that use masking. You can also see masking used on my Typography page and Art Montage page.

Uses:
  • Color on Grayscale; useful for bringing out just a portion of the color in a photo for emphasis.
  • Filling Words with Images; useful for illustrating your chosen word.
  • Making collages and montages; useful for blending images smoothly.
  • Retouching Photos; retouching the image without actually editing the original photo.
