During the most of my October 4th, 2011 Intro to drawing class, we worked on shading and value. We did exercises with simple still life setups where we would quickly draw the shapes, then shade with white, gray, and black and no mediums between each. In his words, we were to "identify the brightest brights and darkest darks" by squinting and using a special screen.
This particular charcoal drawing with the drape took up about forty minutes of our three hour long class. I am pretty pleased with it, especially because of how realistic the drape looks and becaue I managed to create shine and highlight on the objects fairly accurately to what I was seeing.
