Product Shots

 During my senior year of high school I took a class on photography. Each week we learned new techniques with DSL cameras. For the duration of the class we were loaned a DSL camera of our own. Additionally, each week there was a theme, and we had to take at least five unique pictures depicting the theme. These pictures were then put together into a slide show with suitable music to be shown to the class and then graded. Sometimes we had additional projects and assignments. One of these assignments was to create a "product shot."

Product shots are generally taken on a plain white background so that all focus is on the product. Often, the product is on a reflective surface or is edited to have a reflection. These two pictures (above and below) were taken in a cardboard box with a piece of curved paper (designed by the instructor).

 The above photo is of a cubic zirconia necklace. It was edited to remove any specks of dirt and to increase contrast. I prefer this photo over the one below for its contrast and sophistication.

This photo was taken in the same, before-mentioned, box contraption. I don't like how monotone the photo is, however. There is little contrast in color or value.
