Peaceful Day

2009. Watercolor and Ink.
Peaceful Day is a watercolor and ink painting done in 2009 for my Portfolio Development I class in highschool. It was a free choice assignment. The lilac flowers were drawn from observation, the butterfly from a photography I took myself, and the background from imagination.

Recently suffering from artistic block, I had decided to try a little observational painting. Inspired by the beauty of the lilacs, I painted a bush in the schoolyard. I went with a simple mountain background to make its surroundings more pleasing. The buttefly was added for contrast and for a focal point to make the painting "pop".
