Dragonfly Night

2010. Charcoal.
Dragonfly Night  is a charcoal drawing done for my Portfolio Art II Class. It was a free assignment with no limitations other than the choice of media.

Wanting to work from imagination in detail, I decided to focus heavily on background. I decided to make a pond because I have a particular fondness for water scapes. And mountains.

The scenery is by no means realistic looking-the water  should be as black as the night sky above it, the clouds should be more airy, and the mountains should have more depth- but nonetheless, it is one of my favorite art pieces. It has a certain magical, mystical feeling to it that I love.
